Financial business

TIS has an extensive track record and abundant expertise in the Japanese finance sector. These strengths enable solutions to client problems that help clients innovate and create new business areas. The Company is a Japanese payment industry leader that has brought new value to the world through a number of front-loaded IT business investment projects.

Overview

TIS has over 50 years of experience in finance, with the Japanese payment segment accounting for about 23% of Groupwide consolidated sales. PAYCIERGE is a platform used to provide payment solutions, and one of the Company's mainstay segments. In addition to providing PAYCIERGE and other services, TIS has also been working proactively to help the world go cashless. We are committed to providing the infrastructural support needed for the transition, harnessing our experience in a wide range of financial system-related areas to make safe, secure and convenient payment methods available wherever they are needed.

Our successes are not limited to Japan. The Company's strengths in payments and banking are also being used to help find solutions to several issues of public concern in the ASEAN region such as traffic congestion, the wealth gap and food waste. Working on financial inclusion in the region was the Company's first area of focus. Financial inclusion is the term used to describe efforts designed to remove age-, gender- or net worth-based barriers to financial service accessibility. The Company is working on this topic by actively seeking out local and global partners to spur the collaborative creation of new value in the payment market. The solid reputation earned by the Company's Japanese payment segment and the high quality of the TIS payment platform should bring the same sort of high-added value the Company has generated in Japan to the ASEAN region.

Our impact

TIS has worked on mission-critical system development for 11 of the top 26 companies by credit card transaction volume. These 11 companies represent about 200 million cardholders and account for about half of Japan's annual credit card retail transaction volume of 81 trillion yen. The number of debit cards issued in Japan has reached 460 million, while payments have grown to 770 million transactions valued at 3.3 trillion yen. Most payments are made using debit cards allied with international brands. TIS commands the lion's share of this market, with about 86% of Japanese payment processors using services such as the Company's Branded Debit Processing Service which provides all the service functions needed for issuing and operating branded debit cards.

Global efforts

The Company's global business segments assist local companies by providing existing technologies sourced from Japan. Cutting-edge technologies and services are also created through financial and business partnerships with ASEAN and Chinese market leaders, autonomously creating markets and growing business domains. X-Tech (cross-technology) is the term TIS uses to describe the activities we are now focusing on to gain a competitive edge and make the most of our strengths. A series of partnerships have resulted in collaborative pioneering of new business areas driven primarily by fintech (financial technology). We will continue to use global partnerships to assist business growth and boost corporate added value.
